The quote bank

Loading the catalog…

Each new quote independently has a 50% Bible / 50% song chance, with no fixed category totals or quotas. Each category rotates through its playable pool before repeating. Daily sequences are saved and shared by all players. Quotes containing archaic wording such as “doth,” “hath,” “thou,” “thy,” or “speaketh” are excluded from both categories. Lines appear in lowercase with quotation marks and ending punctuation removed. Apostrophes inside words use the same straight style across all sources.

Bible excerpts containing named people, places, peoples or named supernatural characters are excluded. The filter checks the excerpt, not its book reference. It covers alternate spellings, compounds and possessives; ambiguous everyday words use their original capitalization and context.

The name aliases are adapted from STEPBible.org’s TIPNR proper-name data, based on work at Tyndale House Cambridge, under CC BY 4.0. Changes: selected and normalized English aliases, omitted generic titles, and added common-word safeguards. Full attribution ↗

The playable pool contains 12,500 Bible excerpts and 10,000 songs after filtering, including 2,500 imported GenZ.Bible excerpts. Original source excerpts remain in the archive for attribution.

Bible editions

The bulk expansion uses the public-domain World English Bible and Young’s Literal Translation, covering all 66 books with distinct passages. These add modern and archaic wording.

The source archive includes 300 NLT scripture excerpts across all 27 New Testament books, from the translation used by The Metal Bible. The playable edition count below reflects the wording and name filters. The additional 295 archive entries come from the official Tyndale NLT API under its noncommercial usage terms. No personal stories are included.

The Metal Bible feature PDF identifies NLT as its New Testament translation. These cards are labeled “NLT used by The Metal Bible.” The API supplies current NLT wording (1996, 2004, 2015); the PDF credits an older NLT edition (1996, 2004, 2007). Exact wording in the printed Metal Bible has not been independently checked.

Gen Z Bible by Bible Mode retains its original five excerpts (GENZ). The separate GenZ.Bible edition (GENZ_BIBLE) adds 2,500 short excerpts from the user-provided crawler CSV. Its 30,695 source verses cover 1,167 chapters; Revelation is missing from that export. The 2,500 excerpts are selected across the available books. Each addition preserves source wording and chapter links, passes the game's existing filters, and is deduplicated. The export does not establish a general reuse license. Import details ↗

Song sources

One short excerpt per song, at most ten words, with repeated titles and covers deduplicated. The bank combines pop, rock and established vocalists with traditional songs. Playback uses YouTube first and Spotify second. Bulk entries open clearly labeled artist/title searches; the original twenty entries retain their verified direct recording links.

Bulk transcriptions come from the 57,650-song research corpus (derived from the Spotify Million Song Dataset), the 2000–2024 Billboard chart research corpus, and source-linked entries from the Public Domain Lyrics Database. The latter’s generated CC0 collection is excluded. Traditional dates are approximate and are not shown as release years.

Lyrics remain the property of their authors and rights holders. Public access to a corpus does not make its modern lyrics public domain. The game distributes brief excerpts only. Bulk transcriptions and metadata have not all been manually checked; each entry retains its research source. View catalog provenance and counts ↗
